What Affects the Cost of Custom Sauna Design & Installation
No two saunas cost the same. These are the things that move the price most:
- Where it goes and how big. Carving a hot room out of an existing wall is the cheapest path. A freestanding cabin out back needs concrete, a trenched circuit, and a roof, and it prices accordingly.
- Wood. Some woods cost more for how they look, how they smell, and how they hold up in dry heat.
- Heater and controls. Electric, wood-fired, and steam heaters all price out differently, and some homes need a panel upgrade first.
- Glazing and lighting. Full glass fronts, view windows, and recessed fixtures each add to the total.
- Building work. New pads, framing, vents, drains, and old wiring all add up.
- Permits. City fees track the size of the job, and we handle the paperwork.
Once the site visit and the drawings are done, one figure covers design, materials, labor, and permit fees. It does not move afterward.

How long does a custom sauna take?
Four to eight weeks is typical, measured from approved drawings to first heat. Freestanding backyard cabins run longer, and a straightforward interior conversion can beat it. You get a dated schedule before we mobilize.
Will a sauna fit in an awkward spot?
Yes. That is the point of going custom. We have built into garages, spare bedrooms, side yards, and pool decks. After we measure, we will tell you what fits.
Indoors or outdoors in this climate?
Both work here. An outdoor sauna gets the most use in fall and winter, and an indoor room is easy to use in July when it is 100 degrees outside. Plenty of clients go outdoor and add shade. We will help you choose.
Do you handle permits and HOA rules?
Yes. We file with the city, book the inspections, and build to code. If your neighborhood has an HOA, we put together the drawings they ask for too.
Will the steam be any good?
Yes, and this is what most saunas get wrong. Real steam needs enough rocks, a heater sized to the room, and vents in the right spots. We plan all three from the start.
